Over the past 7 weeks I have worked hard to improve my Japanese as quickly as possible, and overall I am pleased with the progress that I've made. Reviewing vocabulary, reading aloud from the textbook, doing shadowing exercises, and chatting with Japanese friends have all helped me improve my confidence in speaking, and I try to do these things as often as possible. As a result, I think I have improved my speed when speaking Japanese, as well as my intonation and precision, although I still have difficulty when speaking Japanese for extended periods of time, for example when doing shadowing.
Unfortunately, I'm not able to attend the Japanese Language Table this semester because of prior commitments, which is a shame because I really would like to practice talking with Japanese native speakers as often as possible. To make up for this, I originally set myself the goal of making regular appointments to meet with my Japanese teachers one-on-one to practice speaking Japanese. I'm disappointed that I haven't yet found the time to do this, and this remains one of my goals for the rest of this semester.
In addition, I have also set myself new goals for Japanese 101. I want to keep reviewing vocab and reading aloud from the textbook, as well as having basic conversations with my Japanese friends as often as possible, but I also want to do more shadowing practices to improve my pronunciation (particularly my intonation). I think these are realistic goals that will help me improve my Japanese, and I'm looking forward to the rest of this semester!

Earlier this week I set myself the goal of improving my spoken Japanese. Specifically, I wanted to improve the rhythm and intonation when I speak, focusing on pitch patterns. In order to achieve this goal, I came up with three basic activities to help me practice regularly: 1) practice reading vocab from the textbook aloud as often as possible; 2) meet with my Japanese friend to practice my speaking and hear his feedback; and 3) arrange to meet with one of my teachers during their office hours to practice my spoken Japanese and ask them to help me with my intonation.
I will try to do these three activities every week. This week, for instance, I have been able to review vocab from the textbook almost every day, practicing speaking the new words and phrases out loud to improve my pronunciation. I have also been able to talk with my Japanese friend and get some advice from him. Unfortunately, I haven't had time to meet with any of my teachers during their office hours this week, since I have been so busy with other commitments. But I am hoping to arrange a meeting at some point next week. Watch this space!
